It’s
a good idea to use our tests to check
the levels are correct. Once these levels have been set you should not need
to change them again. The surround speakers (usually behind the listener,
should not be too loud as they are purely there to add perspective.
In many cases you may think the surround speakers are not on until a battle
scene or a thunderstorm is present.
The sub Bass (or Sub Woofer) is for low frequency reproduction only. Fortunately
low frequencies are not very directional which means the placement of the
woofer is not so critical. If you have the space placing the woofer in a corner
is ideal.
Some systems have built in effects like auditorium, large hall, stadium etc.
I strongly recommend you to switch them off as very often people have blamed
the sound quality of a movie as they have been unaware it was there effects
to blame.
A lot of people today watch their movies from their computer. Most new computers
have surround sound built in and its just a matter of an optical or phono
connection to the amplifier. If you are a movie enthusiast and also listen
to music I recommend a system that has the amplifier built into the sub woofer.
There is usually a facility on the remote for stereo or surround. This is
important because when you are playing 2 channels (stereo) you need to here
the mix with the Sub Bass and without the centre speaker on. Don’t spend less
than 100 dollars on your surround system
the results just aren’t worth it.
